So the kiddies have gone for their top ten Welsh Assembly Initiative Idols with lots of celebs, sports and otherwise; James Hook, Ray Gravelle, Joe Galzaghe, Ryan Giggs. Then the entertainers as Katherine Jenkins, Bryn Terfel, Tom Jones and Gethin Jones, he can’t sing but boy can he dance. I though it might have been me for a moment but no, not so! Then rather oddly the kiddies go and pick Hywel Dda and St David. Now I am not going to shout FIX!!! No! Instead I will scream FIXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!!!!!!!!

Ah yes! those Welsh Laws, one of which allowed men to beat their wives. This was to leave all other Welsh Princes with a big problem as English Kings claimed this to set a precedent; they would insist other Welsh Princes followed. So not exactly a great Welsh Hero, let alone Idol of mine but I can quite undersand how he fits in with that Assembly of Appeasement and A.M's so SUBSERVIENT TO AN ENGLISH PARLIAMENT, ENGLISH CROWN AND OF COURSE AN ENGLISH HOUSE OF LORDS.

Thankfully on hem of Assembly’s Welsh Idol Initiative, a ‘Great Welsh’ survey sponsored by The Principality and carried out by Research & Marketing Plus of Cardiff came out with the following list in order of favour by those questioned; Owain Glyndwr, David Lloyd George equal with Dylan Thomas, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Jones, Katherine Jenkins though the Welsh People themselves came out tops of all, and why not? Oh well! Glyndwr, is still in there for me, with Lewis Lewis – Lewsyn yr Heliwr a close second as hero of mine. Yes! I am a bit of a Socialist trapped in a nationalist body but ‘Socialist Man’ is starting to break out, as I get more and more despondent and disillusioned about present day “Welsh Nationalism” so obviously in demise as a force to ever attain Welsh Independence? Certaily most Welsh Nationalists will give lip service to memory to Owain Glyndwr but when it comes to getting real about restoring the Welsh Independence he won in a long hard struggle, unfortunatly the majority are fence sitters and moderate middle roaders. Welsh Heroes and ''Great Welsh'', all very subjective I know, but one things for sure, National Hero Owain Glyndwr is the most favoured amongst this pantheon. Today he his generally accepted as the greatest of our heroes by most, although it appears our ''Plant Cymru'' are becoming persuaded that ''Celebs Cymru'' are the ''Welsh Greats'' and ''Welsh Idols'' to ''Hero Worship'' in these present times, as I mention further on in this post. However, whom dear Patriot are your Welsh Heroes? and Welsh Greats? yes! for sure Owain Glyndwr is our 'Uno Numero' but whom then? For me, he has got to be quickly followed by the ''Barefoot Welsh Doggis'', his largelly ''Peasant Army'' who once having been liberated would never return to bondage and serfdom but rather be of the ''Gwerin Owain'' - The ''Welsh Outlaws'' of our wild woods.

But even amonst the princes I have this particur liking for those who were ''Rebel Princes'' as Gruffydd ap Cynan and his mate, Rhys ap Gruffydd and his warrior wife Gwenllian. Outlaw Heroes whom from their ''Hole in the Wall'' in the wild woods of Caio led Welsh Rebel Resistance to the Normans. Rebels as Rhys and Gwenllian then become far enough away in historical time for our Welsh Establishment of today to admire them, as there is a safe distance in time, but the ''Welsh Establishment'' of their day called them and their followers ''Hot Heads'' and ''Imbiciles''. Even Owain Glyndwr by Tudor times, was regarded as a ''Papist Rebel'' and a rather ''Foolish Fella'' (see Cambrianism in http://cofcenedl.blogspot.com/).

In later and our own times ''Welsh Establishments'' are careful how they look and reflect upon history, and thus you will find that ''Welsh Rebels'' and ''Welsh Revolutionaries'' are given a bad press or even hidden away by being kicked into the dark corners of our history. As example Lewis Lewis - Lewsyn yr Heliwr, leader of the great workers Insurrection that swept from Hirwaun into Merthyr Tudful during the first week of June 1831. Our ''Welsh Establishments'' since those times have chosen as safer bet to ensure that their ''pacifist'' Penderyn is best remembered but the ''militant'' Lewis is best forgotten (see Red Rembrancer http://redremembrancer.blogspot.com/) It is however, not always as clear as that in chosing our ''Rebel Heroes'', as example of the two ''Rebeccite Resistants'' John Jones aka 'Shoni Sgubor' and David Davies aka 'Dai'r Cantwr' both transported to Austrailia in 1843. Both men had virtues and vices, and it is a case that the Patriotic Jury is still out on they, but still do not ignore their contribution to the Rebecca Movement and struggle, as you will learn much about weaknesses and stregnths of individuals thrust centre stage of history, for those ''15 minutes of fame" or maybe ''illfame''

The followers of the Cefyll Pren, Scotch Cattle and Rebecca, Chartists and Trade Unionist Militants and those who were simply
labelled ''Rioters'' as at Tonypandy in 1910 and Llanelli in 1911. Then of course there is our own great 'Adfywiad Gwladgarol 1963 - 69', no I don't mean the 'Cultural Nationalist Language Struggle' that has become acceptable Welsh 'Crachach' Establishment History. This ''Acceptable History'' is well recorded not least on TV, in history books and in School books, including in fiction for teenagers as example of the novel Yr Awisgo by Sonia Edwards and published by Gwasg Gomer. In these ''Welsh Establishment Histories'' you will not read, see or hear very much of the likes of Cayo, his comrades and compatriots, or others of the Great 60's Patriotic Resurgence.
