1969 - 2009, the 40th Anniversary of the demise of the FREE WALES ARMY in the Anti - Investiture Conspiracy Trial of the 'Swansea Nine'. Arrested on 26 February 1969, tried and Imprisoned on the 1 July 1969, the full story is yet to be told and as ''I was there'' I will over the coming months be posting up a personal 'Hanes' of those ''Dangerous Days''. I say get the real thing! This Summer go for the 'Bottle Green' look, help me out here, I have an huge stock pile of FWA Uniforms buried away for over 40 years. I kind of like Welsh Non Conformists who built more Chapels than people in Wales, I bought out Army Surplus from the A&N Stores, dyed them in the bath and waited for the 'Rush to the Colours' thinking I would make a killing but no, the Rush to Arms' never came.

Silly me believing Wales was going to be another Ireland 1916 or Lithuania 1918, no such luck and I was stuck with 1000's of FWA Uniforms, time to dig em up! Maybe establish a Free Wales Army Reenactment Society, as there is for the SWB. Seems to be plenty of support out there for some Tramp! Tramp! Tramping about around Abergwesyn maybe.

The following Quote is taken from the above book , to my mind what caused this to be written is even truer today. Our contemporary ''Intellectuals'' aka ''Intelligentsia'' must be the most cowardly bunch ever associated with any Political Struggle, let alone a Nationalist Struggle. I have given up wondering if the ''Washed Out Wannabes'' of 'Alternative Nationalism' are up for anything more than just P,P&P, as for the 'I&I' older bunch most were only good for painting or pulling down English Language sign posts. As for the contemporary crowd what good are they for, other than milking the system and being paid handsomely in ''Saxon Shillings''. HHHhhhmmm!!! I dare say an hand full have signed one or another of Cambria Magazines useless petitions but as for really coming off the fence or crossing the line that's another matter.

I just wonder if any of they would make the grandest of Radical Patriotic Gestures and assemble at the Gate of Castell Caernarfon and shout out loud, of course in posher words than this 'STUFF YOUR FUCKING ENGLISH PRINCES AND WE THE INTELLECTUALS OF WALES WILL LAY BEFORE THE WHEELS OF ANY ROYAL CARRIAGE TAKING WILLIAM TOWARD THE CASTLE TO BE INVESTED AS YET ANOTHER ENGLISH PRINCE OF WALES - HE WILL ONLY PASS OVER OUR DEAD BODIES'. I am getting carried away now, so better stop there, but you get my drift? So who will be the first Intellectual to speak up, in English or Welsh, either language will do!

I do not think the Irish, Serbs or Lithuanian et al Intellectuals would have put up with such Investiture nonsense without for one moment in history putting down their pen and at least taking up a protest placard if not a gun. Thus at the very least can we hope to see some ''Welsh Intellectuals'' on 1 July 2009 assembling at Gate of Castell Caernarfon to make a grand statement to make sure that the English Government and their native lackies fully understand that if they dare to hold another Investiture anywhere in Wales - THERE WILL BE BIG TROUBLE!

AZINCOURT 1415: FOR HARRI, ENGLAND, St George and St David. How Wales got St David's Day made a public holiday.

Yes you read that right, St David's Day is already a Public Holiday, enforced by the lawful will of none other than Henry V following his victory over the French at Azincourt, Henry V sought to thank the 'Taffs' who had fought for him (see below). So really there is no need for all these ''Dewi Groupies'' to get in a fluster year after year demanding that 1st March is made a public holiday, when it already is, and by order of an English King as well.

But why did he do that you might think? I do not think it was just a matter of thanking the Welsh Archers for their help to win the victory of Azincourt, no more to do with the fact that true Welsh Patriots were still engaged in rebellious struggle in Wales and Henry V was out to pacify the 'Taffs' by all means possible. Sure enough Byddin Glyndwr's Soldiers had become in main a 'Legion of the Rearguard' fighting a Guerrilla War in Eryri under command of Maredudd ab Owain until the surrender of April 1421. Last ''Welsh Rebel'' I have accounted for as being made prisoner and hung at Welshpool was in 1422 but of course bands of Gwerin Owain outlaws were to continue anti - English Resistance until 1484 and beyond, certainly up to fifthteen thrirties. So for Henry V the situation could turn for the worse, knowing that the Welsh were such a 'Turn on a Button' bunch of trouble makers.

The English Crown in 1415 were doing what they have done so well since 1282, buy off 'Taffy' with a few petty rewards and pathetic baubles or crumbs off the table, the awful thing is, it's worked well on 'Taffy'. So that's why I am not so fussed on Dydd Dewi Parading about in Cardiff to provide what's no more that becoming a 'Tourist Attraction' for the City fathers. I do not intend to waste much time on ''Cambrianistas'' great 'Welsh Event' other than to remind that it would be far better for true Patriots to save their marching feet for a longer march into history - that being a march on Castell Caernarfon in the summer of 2009, perhaps?

Now wouldn't that be a big step back into our history! however, I am kind of hoping that we shall see some 'fit for it & up and at it' post '69 younger patriots lead the way, this time around. After all a few 'Grey Beards' on their Zimmer Frames' , on Crutches and in Wheel Chairs will as much scare off another Investiture as a Petition? will not do it but a good crowd of Patriots marching around Caernarfon Castle this July 2009 might do the trick! what do you think? So Gwynedd Awake and Cymru Arise!

THE PLOTS TO KIDNAP CARLO - Charles Windsor - An English Prince of Wales.

There were evidently two plots to Kidnap Carlo in 1969, at the time for most of that year I was not aware of either plot, but of the plot to thwart the Investiture and of the eventual outcome of that plot I have much to tell of. STAMPS: In The Promotion of History & Struggle.

The first Campaign for Welsh Stamps I can recollect was in the sixties when we over printied Brit stamps with 'Cymru', see cutting below. When GPO continued to ignore the demand for Welsh Stamps we printed our own, most importantly first was the Patagonia Anniversary stamp, I have copies but not available to me at moment to scan and post here. Same we produced a 'Welsh Not' anniversary stamp, unfortunately I have no copies. Later Gwasg Lolfa published 'Welsh Stamps' as shown below re 'Testament Newydd' and of course they have in recent times published an Owain Glyndwr set.

The British Post Office will be publishing Welsh Interest Stamps on 26 February re 'The Great Little Trains' of Wales but none I am aware of yet to cover any significant Welsh Anniversaries as example the 125th anniversary of the cremation of Iesu Grist the Son of Dr William Price, this being a landmark in history of introducing cremation into the British Isles, it is kind of a missed opportunity. There are other important anniversaries as well, not least anniversary of death of Twm Sion Catti, the fall of Harlech Glyndwr's Citadal' in 1409 and some others of interest .

Then what about 100th Anniversaries of Tonypandy 1910 and Llanelli 1911. I wonder if the Zulu War 1879 - 2009 and of course Battle of Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift will get any attention, or maybe the Statutes of Rhuddlan and Edwards Nefyn Victory Celebrations 1284 - 2009, 725th anniversaries to really provoke Welsh Nationalists. Even more provocutive would be a stamp to mark the 40th Anniversary of that Infamouse Investiture of 1969, do not think so but I guess Henry VIII will get one to mark anniversary of his assension to the throne.

Cofiwn in 1982 issued it's own Commemorative Envelopes and had people post them with Brit Stamps up side down, as shown below, note I posted this one to myself on day of the 700th - 1282 - 1982 Anniversary Rali Cilmeri. A very good design and altogether an attractive commemorative idea. Of course if we had our own Independent Welsh G.P.O. we could issue loads of Commemorative stamps and envelopes marking famous events in our history. What a great way to promote our history and make money for a Welsh Postal Service.

I have started to collect stamps for my Grandchildren, stamps of historical interest particularly those that mark Political struggles as of Ireland and Poland etc. Am getting quite a collection together which I will share with you across all my blogs as and when opportune or appropriate to post up, so keep your eyes open for some very interesting stamps that will at same time keep you historically informed.

Over the coming years there will be a number of interesting World Anniversaries coming up for which there will be issue of special Anniversary stamps, I wonder if the Albiginese Crusade will get a stamp? I cannot see Poland failing to miss the 1410 - 2010 Battle of Grunwald anniversary, this year the USA marks anniversary of the Birth of Abe Lincoln and in years shortly to come the most important anniversaries of the American Civil War, go check web for further info.

POPULAR HISTORY MAGAZINES but why not a Welsh one? About time there was don't you think?

Cadw produces a thrice yearly Magazine for it's members which with the below Welsh History Journal published for internal educational use by teachers in Wales, are excellent publications but restricted in public presentation and in main privately circulated. However, both these journals are good examples and provide good templates for what could be produced as a WELSH HISTORY MAGAZINE. Surely such could be delivered with WAG financial support and the pro-active involvement of such as Cadw, RCAHMW and both the Civic and National Trusts of Wales, and other like minded bodies. I would strongly suggest that this be an English Language magazine, not even bilingual as there really does seem sufficient done via medium of 'Yr Hen Iaith' in this area in both publications and via S4C programming. I suggest this also for pragmatic and practical reasons regards ensuring potential great success in the highly competitive mass media popular publications end of magazine sales today, just take a look at the Magazine Shelves in Smiths, so if such is to be a success one must get real and let the head rule not the heart. Plus please, if such is to succeed then it must draw upon the whole history education area in Wales, and involve as many Welsh Historians as possible, and not the ''Media Darlings'', especially the fella in the fishing jacket who has hogged our history far too much at expense of other great historian.

Whatever, expect me to make this a major campaigning matter in WR posts this year, in mean time do some reading of all the history Magazines available, not least the Scottish History Magazine and yes, if Scotland has got such, indeed why not Wales?
