COFIWCH 1284 - 2009 725th ANNIVERSARY OF OUR CONQUEST and Cadw celebrates!

.
Please as you will see from below a deadline is a priority, Cadw sought to pass this under our Radar as a so called ''World Heritage Day' event but it does have another meaning and purpose. They might have got away with it, if it were not for a fellow Patriot informing me of below developments. Not a lot I can do about it at this late date, so I appeal to patriots to pass on this post as a link , and otherwise email, text and phone the basic info around as far as possible in great haste. At the very least try and motivate a patriotic flash mob of Caernarfon Castle on days suggested. TO NOTHING IS A SIGN OF DEFEAT!

Also Remembering Insult 1283 – 1983 Festival of Castles and with further Insults in mind Ebrill 1284 – Ebrill 2009 on 725th Anniversary of Construction of Caernarfon Castle. Is there little wonder why I refer to Cadw as Conquest And Defeat Wales’, and this year they got a silver 25th Anniversary Medal to hand out to their promoters of Cerebral Colonialism. All enough to make me want to re-establish Cofiwn so as to get down to some serious anti – Cerebral Colonial Campaigning. If only Balchder Cymru could get their Act Together they could fulfil this need but no they rather prance about pretending to be latter day post ‘’sixties’’ wannabe ‘’Welsh Heroes’’ rather than get down to real radical resistence.

Most should be aware of the events of 1282, if not seek out my Cilmeri Rally, Cofiwn Archive and I’r Gad – Welsh Battlefield Campaign blogs. The following year 1283, Gwynedd was occupied, and mopping up operations in Eryri continued into summer against those few making a last stand in area of Llanberis. By the summer of that year Dafydd ap Gruffydd was captured, as were the royal children whose fate was imprisonment and a slow death by diverse means, none the less murderous. Then Dafydd III was eventually butchered at Shrewsbury on 3 October 1283, in the following year of 1284 Edward I had a busy time of it making sure that it really was ’End Game’ for any Independent Welsh Princes and Principalities. This meant the building of his great Castles in the former heartlands of the Princes of Gwynedd, this kept Edward I happy as he progressed around them, on 26 March 1284 arriving at Conwy and by April 1284 Edward was at Caernarfon to see his ultimate dream come true, the building of the Caernarfon Castle in style of the Walls of Constantinople, ever a symbol of Edward I’s great Imperial dream of grandeur.

Here, at Caernarfon it all starts to really get together for Edward I the greatest of Arthurian Enthusiasts but with purpose of course, for fast loosing their French Possessions the English Crown had been seeking a new identity one that would outshine the French one which glorified Charlemagne as their ‘Founding Father’. What was left for the English? ’Beowulf’ or maybe ‘Harold the Saxon’ or ‘William the Norman’, no such choices would not be ‘Politically Correct’. Thus who better than this ‘Arthur’ the Brythons kept prattling on about’. Of course there never was a real Arthur, this whole legend had it’s basis in religious mysteries born out of probably a pre – Celtic ‘Bear God’ cult, submerged by the Celts own religious beliefs. The ‘Bear Cult’ may have survived amongst pre – Celtic peoples, as the Picts of ancient Alba and Iberians of Southern ‘Silurian’ Wales.

Later in post Roman times doing exactly what Christians do best they adopted previous Religions to their own use, thus Brigad becomes St Brigit, and the most potent of primitive Pagan deities that of the ‘Bear Cult’ figure becomes ‘Arthur of the Britons’, as a symbol of Romano – Christian struggle over old Pagan ways being resurrected by the Patriot Gwrtheyron (Do not believe all the black propaganda lies put about by Gwynedd ‘media lickspittles’ against the founding father figure of Powys) out to destroy all vestiges of Roman rule and their Colonial ‘’Civilization’. To post Roman so called ‘’Celtic Christianity’’ the Arthur V Gwrtheyrn was as important as Saint David V Pelagius, get the picture? In the struggle for supremacy of the ‘Island of the Mighty’.

But I digress, back to Edward I who arranged the faked finding of the bones of Macsen Wledig (see similar treatment re an ‘Arthur’ at Glastonbury) in the foundations being prepared for Caernarfon Castle. Later, that month of April Edward I’s wife, Eleanor had a baby – the first of many English Princes of Wales, here that legend is born re him not speaking English so bamboozling the Welsh with the ‘Cymraeg Con’ the English have used ever since down to this day – to keep ‘Y Cymry’ in the ‘Cultural Nationalist Box’ with since 1979 the lid kept in place by grants of ‘’Saxon Shillings’’ . This all has roots in post Conquest Cymru for at Overton in 1284 and twice at Caerwys in reign of Elizabeth I and have done so ever since up to present reign of Elizabeth II. This is why it’s all so easy for ‘Cultural Nationalists’’ to cry Crocodile tears over Llywelyn ap Gruffydd but then as in the ‘Sixties’, get Cultural Nationalists as Edward Millward to teach Carlo Cymraeg and then on Carlo’s Royal Progress of Wales whilst visiting Caermarthen, Plaid President Gwynfor Evans shakes his hand.

Sometime during that summer of 1282 Edward was made very happy has the Royal Treasures of Gwynedd were handed up to him, he gained possession of not only ‘Y Croes Naid’ but also so we are told a ‘Coron Arthur’, actually a Coronet worn by Princes of Gwynedd, evidently looking too pathetic for Edward I, so he had his own Royal Jewellers ‘’posh it up’’ a bit! Amongst much else taken away by Edward I was a silver chalice part of the Gwynedd Royal treasure, this he presented to Monks of his new Abbey at Vale Royal in Cheshire Abbey (wonder where this Chalice is now?, if it still exists? We should demand that back for starters). Edward I spent some time in June 1284 camped at Llwyn Cwm Delyn holding court and listening to the grovelling submissions of a bunch of petty lords and chiefs that would underpin Edward I’s new ‘Vichy’ Style State Settlement of his conquests in Pura Wallia. However, for Edward I the icing on the cake would be an huge ‘Victory’ party with a ‘Round Table’ tournament at Nefyn as from 1 Awst 1284.
On Awst 13 Edward I revisited Caernarfon after which he would go on a Royal progress around his newly being built Castles in Northern Wales, and then on to Ceredigion, Aberystwyth and to St David’s cathedral to give thanks for the conquest of Cymru and Y Cymry. Following this he went on to Southern Wales to be paid homage by the Anglo – Norman Conquistadores there, and then over to Bristol for Xmas.

End story?

Not quite, as over the 18 – 19 April 2009, there is to be held at Caernarfon Castle a supposedly celebration of World Heritage Day? Now isn’t that convenient, to mark the 725th Anniversary of the Construction of the Castle during 1284, April 1284 remember was when Edward I was at Caernarfon to view the very same Castle it is now planned to celebrate the construction of to ensure that ‘Y Cymry’ would not rise again. But of course they did 10 years later in the Madog led National Revolt, they attacked the Castle, burnt the gate way and otherwise knocked it about. Then to top it, they topped the Castle’s Constable by hanging him at the Castle Gate, fantastic stuff! But can you dear Patriots possibly just consider a Patriotic Picket Protest or even a Dynamic Demonstration? You know with Patriotic Slogan Placards, Banners and plenty of flags of course and while your at it hang up some effigies of Carlo and William, and why not some present day Collaborationist Colonialists.

Anyone up for that? But who will organise it? Gwladgarwyr Gwynedd? Or maybe the ‘Balchderiaid’ Poseurs or ‘Cambrianista’ Petitioners? I hope some one does, I have done it thrice at gates of Caernarfon and am not doing it again, time for some one else to awake and arise to this Ebrill Insult 2009. Maybe we could get a 1000 present day Welsh Minstrels to stand on the DIAS OF DEFEAT & DOMINATION within the walls of the Castle, maybe if not a 1000, maybe 100? 50? 25? 5? At least one Minstrel or Poet, perhaps Meic Stephens? Whatever, do note you are not supposed to walk on the grass to reach the Dias, I attempted to do so with a replica of Y Croes Naid but I got tackled by the S.B. and thrown out of the Castle, ah well at least I tried, I wonder if any one will bother post Cofiwn and the successful Campaign against the Festival of Castles in 1983, that year we closed the Castle down with a Gate Blockade ‘Sit Down’ that became World Wide news, and that was before Caernarfon Castle was made a World Heritage site! Not for one moment am I suggesting the same is done again, but certainly why not a two day picket much publicised of course to get the message across to tourists and the World, that we are not quite a defeated people, well not all of us? But we will see if that’s true on above dates and between 1 – 4 July 2009 40th Anniversary of the 1969 Investiture of an Englishman as Prince of Wales.

Post Script:

Caernarfon at end of the day, is a long way to travel twice to in one year for ‘Hwntws’, so I suggest you give April a skip and instead on the 18th of that Month head for Merthyr for the Chartist Commemoratrion to be held there. Further, Chartist Commemoration wise do note that on thew 16 May 2009 there will be a major Chartist Commemoration in Llanidloes to mark the workers rising of 1839: Revisting Chartism in Wales, this is a Llafur event so seek further details from they ok!
PPS: maybe up to then patriots could be considering their own contemporary Anti – Colonial Charter Cymru, opposing Cerebral and all other forms of Colonialism, not least Economic and of course not forgetting Cultural Colnialism. This in mind I further suggest that one and all start to read up on Colonialism, Post Colonialism/Postcolonialism etc, maybe then all of interest meet up in Llanidloes to discuss & debate such a new Charter for contemporary Cymru; should it be a Nationalist, Republican or Socialist Charter – A Welsh Socialist Charter Cymru 2009? Think on that whilst your picketing Caernarfon Castle?
