AN AMERICAN DREAM BUT WHAT OF THE WELSH DREAM AND WHOSE DREAM IF ANY OR PERHAPS THERE ARE TOO MANY WELSH DREAMS as once were Chapels?


It makes one wonder if the 19th century Cymry/Welsh had a bad dose of O.C.D, that's 'Obssessive Chapel Disorder', c'mon got to admit there was a problem going on? What amazes me, is that we had a 1000 years of Catholicism and along comes the Protestant Reformation and Kaput! The Welsh on the whole jack it all in, yea! a few Catholic Martyrs but no Catholic Revolt as in many parts of England and even Cornwall but not Wales? Anyway, before I proceed into more seriousness, a joke you may have heard it but for those who have not, I guess it says a lot about the Welsh yesterday and today maybe?

'A Welsh man got shipwrecked on an Island and to pass the time away, he let Welsh O.C.D take over. The years pass by and eventually a ship appeared on the horizon, the shipwrecked Taff waved to it and lit signal fire and soon a rowing boat was on way to rescue him. The Rowing boat run up on the beach and the ships Captain jumped out to be hugged by the shipwrecked Taff after the excitment had died down and the Ships Captain had looked around.....amazed he saw two chapels at some distance apart up off the shoreline! Turning to the ship wrecked Taff he asked why build two Chapels? to which the Ship Wrecked Taff pointing to one and said, that's the Chapel I go to and pointing to the other and said...that's the one I don't go to!'

Boom! Boom! Well I think it's funny and does say some thing about the Welsh, no doubt? What's not so funny is the 'Welsh Ghost Dance' of 1904 - 1905. Amazingly again after 500 years of Protestant Religious Commitment the Welsh Commitment to any form of religion goes into decline very fast until we reach our present times where the majority of Welsh People have no time for any religion other than 'Consumerism' and religious devotion to 'Rugby'.

                Whatever, jokes aside! what prompted this post was the new Documentary Series on BBC An American Dream, brilliant! the episode had some terrific old footage plus contemporary inteviews with people for whom the American Dream had not been a reality as Japanese, Black People and Gays and last but not least Native Americans. Great Interview with AIM founder and Activist Russel Means and great footage of the AIM occupation of Wounded Knee in 1973, I was prompted into thinking why had our 'Cultural Nationalists' not occupied Pentre Capel Celyn after the community had taken it's compensation and walked away?

    Do catch up with an 'American Dream' and as and after viewing think and consider, what of 'The Welsh Dream also does such exist beyond our Medieval Prophecies, the one time 'Religious Dream' or that betrayed Welsh Socialist Dream which led to New Labour. So any other 'Welsh Dreams?' HHHhhhmmm!!! 'Rugby Wales' dreams on that one day Wales will beat New Zealand again and 'Cultural National' Wales dreams on of a 'Bilingual Wales' whilst Political Nationalists dream that Owain Glyndwr will return and establish Welsh Independence but of course none of this will come true. I very much doubt if the Left dare dream of defeating Tory Rule again and Plaid Cymru dare of dreaming of even winning the fourth coming Referendum on more Powers for the Welsh Assembly, that increasingly is looking like a dead duck in come pretty icy waters.

    1. My Welsh Dream? what of that? guess that will remain just a dream, yes! To Dream of Freedom is no good with out waking up, getting up and getting out and about carrying out an Adfywiad Gwladgarol again, as in the'Sixties'. It's my belief that was the time to really 'Seize The Time' whilst there were patriots out there really ready to make sacrifices and not just protest but fight for Wales, our communities and people but too many of our so called Politicians, Intelligensia and not least Taffia and future 'Y Crachach Newydd' at end of day had eyes on a very different prize. Not least Niel Kinnock and Kim Howels but also Traitors as English Lords Dafydd Elis Thomas and Dafydd Wiggley et al. Oh well! given all the Socio - Ecomic Cuts and Carving up of Welsh Land who knows Cymru/Wales might just be ready for some C.O.R.N - Cymru Onward Revolt Now! Perhps at the 'No Cuts' Demonstration in Caernarfon this coming Saturday or failing the 4th December maybe on the December 11th at Rali Cimeri? Why do I think not? so it will just be a case of dream on Gethin! not least because in the new year there's another Rugby Season, so I guess another Adfywiad Gwladgarol is on hold or not?
