Genghis Khan has been getting an huge make over since Mongolia became independent, and why not for years we have only had a rather biased Western version, so keep an open mind. After all what did he do that the Romans had not already done on a grander scale, like the Romans was not Genghis spreading a ''way of life'' as he knew it? Whatever, much about ''national heroes'' is subjective, take for example the central figure in the Mel Gibson film 'The Patriot' based on a character Francis Marion called ''The Swamp Fox'', a significant ''American Hero'' of the Revolutionary War of Independence. Although makers of the film played down the connection between their Patriot hero and the real Francis Marion, for there was a dark side to historical Francis Marion. Evidently the not often dwelled on parts of his CV was that of killing Indians for sport and raping his female black slaves. I have not looked into this much, it could all be ''Black Propaganda'', as Western views of Genghis Khan, and of late VISIT WALES referring to Owain Glyndwr as ''TYRANNICAL'' (see Owain Glyndwr Communicates blog http://owain-glyndwr-embassyllysgenhadaeth.blogspot.com/ ). Whatever, you D&D amongst yourselves on this subject of heroes but do go see the film MONGOL to be release on 6 June 2008, looks as if it's really beyond both Braveheart and Kingdom of Heaven as far as epics are concerned.
