Yes, I do want S4C done away with after all it's a misarably failed Quango. If any other Quango had performed as such they would have long ago been done away with. If a private business had behaved as S4C and failed so badly I am sure the Shareholders would have taken out the CEO and shot him and then hung the Directors. Now I am not suggesting the same is done to the 'Bozos' who have made a right mess of it with S4C, Jasus! how could they have failed having had so much money thrown at them and for years their failiures hidden by the 'Cultural Nationalist Taffia' best known as 'Y Crachach Newydd' - England's Client Tribe in Cymru/Wales. Plus of course ring fence protected by the English Department of Culture from 'Hwntw Interests' who might have been more questioning regards what was going on. A situation that Plant Crachach were quite happy to exist as long as it kept on preserving Y Crachach Newydd privellages, note Plant Crachach did not include S4C in it's demands re 'Yr Hen Iaith' being responsibility of the Welsh Assembly. Now they are all sqealing!
I suspect it's not entirely altruistic, oh no! lot more to it, not least it's a campaign to continue providing jobs for the Crachach Boys and Girls. All of which will not really do Carmarthen much good and certainly not Y Fro Cymraeg, as in reality it will just continue to contribute to the decline of Cymraeg which has been the case since S4C was established, true! So yes, get shot of S4C, the last thing we need is a 'Zombie Cymraeg' lurching around the land ravaging on the flesh of our people, that's a metaphor for useing our TV licences to feed a fantasy that will ever fail, that is failing 'Yr Hen Iaith' as well. Eventually such will turn a great number of our people into 'Zombie Cymraeg Killers', both native speakers and otherwise English or whatever in multi - cultural Wales. This is where Plant Crachach really cannot think straight and have their heads stuck where the Sun does not shine. While they rabbit on about 'Cymru Cymreag' but no longer really hold up much hope for 'Y Fro Cymraeg' as it is all but dead. Certainly it is not now a potential geographical Pura Wallia, increasinly it is smaller and smaller isolated communities with no real unity nor even common 'Cymreag Identity' other than the one created and sustained by the Welsh Language Industry over the last half century. Indeed 'Cymraeg Idenity' is increasingly from Urdd to National Eisteddfod such that is created in image of Plant Crachach to Y Crachach Newydd themselves products of that Welsh Language Industry. Of course that's not the complete story or the whole reality, there is that old 'Cymry Cymraeg' particularly in rural Cymru with all it's old ways and values but much of that is dieing away.
It is any way very much a rural 'Byd Cefn Gwlad' akin to the English Rural Twighlight as depicted in 'Lark Rise To Candleford', I hate it for it's rosy glow that hides reality of the times. What of rural Cymru times old and new, for old rural Cymru of Rebecca Riot and Tithe Wars, there is also the hardly mentioned rural World of the Farm Labourers, see The Rural Revolt that Failed (ref link below). Today, what of those on the Council Estates of your rural Towns from Caernarfon to Cardigan to Carmarthen do they fit into 'Byd Cefn Gwlad' Welsh Language Industry Wales and World View? Then there is the rest of us, that is Native Welsh English Speakers, who though will have to fork out for S4C via BBC WALES TV license we are not even considered worthy of being brought into the discussion. A major concern for us, is fact that if BBC Wales must fork out some £75 Million to sustain 'Cymraeg' programming, then the future does not look bright for BBC Wales Welsh E.L. themed/Interest programming does it? Add to this the new growing reality of Multi - Cultural Wales, this is the future.
Already English Settlement as reduced 'Y Fro Cymraeg' to meaningless in a great many areas in rural Wales over last 50 years. It is continuing to massivelly 'Colonise' North East Wales in fflintshire and along the coast further into the west. Now same in the South from Newport to Cardiff to Swansea and all points west, inc Carmarthen and not least Ystrad Tyw. This new English Colonisation has led to the buliding of a number of new Housing estates in a number of areas inc Llanelli and Pembre for starters as issues of the moment. However, this, often referred to as 'White Flight' colonisation is also moving in on the cleaned up valleys, not least the villages close to the M4 and main rail line Paddington to Fishguard. I am very aware that Southern Wales has a 'native born' ethnic multi - cultural society of Irish, Italians, Jews, Poles, not least Somalis and Afro - Carribean Peoples. Very few have ever learnt 'Cymraeg' but have become 'Welsh'.
Today, there is more but English Government prompted Ethnic settlement of Wales (officially; Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham to relieve South East England of Assylum Seekers. Any One who visits Swansea is sure to notice that the City is becoming a Multi - Cultural 'Sanctury City' but I was suprised to learn in that awful pretty racist episode at Hafod School, that of 260 odd pupils half (50%) were Bangla Desh primary School pupils. Is Hafod a Ghetto? as I hardly notice many people of Bengla Deshi Heritage around Swansea? Now, I am not going down a racist road, I accept the fact that we are in an age of vast 'Tribal Movement', there is no stopping it and I am quite happy for Cymru/Wales to become safe home for 'Assylum Seekers' and 'Economic Refugees', I have myself been both in my time. The former in Ireland as a seeker of 'Political Assylum' and the latter in London for over 10 years. The point here is, a reality that most of these new migrants to Cymru/Wales wil not become as 'Welsh' as previous migrants of 19th Century Industrial Wales, for same reasons many young Cymry in rural Cymru are not useing 'Cymraeg' as much and do not watch S4C.
Yes the modern hi - tech World that becomes smaller by the day via the PC and Facebook and Mobile Phone with texting and twitter plus Vdeo Games etc, etc. Then there is the myth of 'Ysgolion Cymraeg' in the South, just how many Southern Native English Speaking Welsh Youngsters speak 'Cymraeg' in the playground, at home or in out of school liesiure activities. Indeed how many go on speaking 'Cymraeg', I suggest it's more likly those who come from native speaking 'Cymru Cymraeg' families, not least if Crachach and there is possibility of fast tracking to job in the Welsh Language Industry, not least the media especially an S4C? The fact of the matter is that 'language' no more can be a barrier to common shared 'Global Interests' in Music, Film or hobbies etc. My Father was into Big Bands, Hollywood Musicals, Bing Crosby and Perry Como, | grew up with this music and hated it but have inherited is CD's and have learnt to love it. Of course as a teenager was into Bill Haley and later Chubby Checker from Rock and Roll to the Twist but in main Black Soul Music and the Beach Boys, for some reason not interested in English Popular music nor 'Canu Cymreag' other than hymns (I blame School Assembly and Sunday School).
Whatever, today most of the World is into Anglo - American Music and Films plus English Football, so it's not just a case of will S4C survive the growing future expansionism of Anglo - American Culture indeed will Sain Records or the Eisteddfod without of course massive subsidies and grants. In a Post Industrial Wales already an econmically failed nation in a declining economic west - Northern Hemisphere. This adds another question for Plant Crachach, are you not rather blind to fact that your land is being bought up, your loosing your land fast and what point in S&S of 'Yr Hen Iaith' if your land is lost. Not least are you for one moment considering rural unemployment and depoplation or is it truelly the case of being 'I am alright Jac' as most of you are 'Crachach Newydd' or potentially so. I am not forget about 'Naff Nationalism' Camp Following 'Crach Fodder' who will consider it the right thing to do to support 'Cultural Nationalism' much to the detriment of true National Liberation Struggle for Welsh Independence, such long ago lost the patriotic plot!
On top of all this Carmarthen in particular needs to ask itself a few questions, not least how as S4C helped to save and sustain 'Cymraeg' down there not least in Ystrad Tywi. I hear less 'Cymraeg' in Carmarhen Town today than I did in the 'Sixties' and I am sure that I read that 'Cymraeg' has declined 70% in Ystrad Tywi. That's pretty ironic seeing as Gwynfor Evans lived in Llangadog, so did recently passed away Rhobat ap Steffan a keen supporter of CyIG and their 'Cymraeg' sign posts and TV campaign. The movers and Shakers down in Carmarthen need to take much aboard, not least all these facts, then address the question what has S4C done for Carmarthen compared to Caernarfon but more importantly, if S4C is S&S and in Caerdydd that will only mean a Brain 'Creative Cymry' Drain from the West to Caerdydd and it's 'Pontcanna Patagonia'. So at best, if you cannot face the burying of S4C altogether I suggest you back the demand of your former MP Adam Price who called for S4C to me moved to Carmarthen.
Though myself sill call for S4C to be dtiched, dumped and bueried for good and it it's place see the settng up of Community Based TV which in time will be a neccessity anyway to serve interests of various ethnic interests in a substantial Multi - Cultural Cymru/Wales of the future. Problem is that Plant Crachach cannot face such hard facts and 'Y Crachach Newydd' in their own Socio - Economic self advancing interest do not want to. A warning carry on as you are doing along such path of 'Cultural Elitism' and using 'Cultural Fascist' tactics and a cultural emotional blackmail that works less and less, then you are going to piss people off. Trust me, one day, perhaps not so far off you will have to face a very radical reaction not least when your hoped for S4C II again fails expensivelly. But then it's not your money we are talking about is it? However, the sorry thing is you will be made to pay in so far that many, many Welsh and Cymry too will not sympathise with S&S 'Yr Hen Iaith' and that would be very sad indeed. A warning to the 'Waggers'be careful! if for political reasons to suit yourselves, that includes the Labour Party in particular who if winning the Assembly Election in May just might to undermine Plaid Cymru's future will buy off 'Y Crachach Newydd' with a turn around on S4C to make them WAG Labours Client Tribe. Such will not go un noticed and will raise up an hostile reception, well at least from me! So Nats watch out as you too cpould get stuffed by Plant Crachach and 'Y Crachach Newydd' - Whose Client Tribe Now/Hence?
