10 - 10 - 10: THE GOOD AND THE BAD NEWS Time To Pause! Think! and Consider!

The good news concerns the miners in Chile not far from release from their underground nightmare, we pause to be thankful for this hoped for well ending story. Time to consider how humanity can be caring and self sacrificing in the saving of others but then the awfull bad news of the death of a young Scots Women in Afghanistan, here is not the time nor place to apportion blame and certainly not upon those who attempted a rescue. Lets us reflect that in Chile families are left with hope but on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland family and freinds are left in despair. To they we send our greatest of commiserations and to those in Chile our best wishes that all will end well, our heartful hopes that soon your happiness will be made complete.

  • Two documentaries on TV had me in deep thought and reflection last week, the one WW II Lost Films I though quite humbling, in so far that so many young men gave their lives to defeat the 'Evil Empires' of Germany/Italy and Japan. I can even understand why the USA had to use a nucleur weapon to bring the Japanese Militarists to their sense and knees but did they have to drop it on mainland cities and kill so many people. Could they not have dropped them 'off shore' near enough to be seen but not so costly on human life, why not?

The other documentary over two weeks was Secret Iraq, this was about the war in Iraq after downfall of Saddam, so awful in destroying a most ancient civilzation and again at such great cost in lives. Then unleashing a medieval fanatical religious fanaticism, our own 'religious fanatics' could kill us much in the crusades and 'Wars of Reformation' without the weapons and bombs available today. I will have to view this documentary again as whilst I have great sympathy with the people of Iraq, I consider the fanatics were a bit quick off the mark really. Not least in Basra where the Shia under Iranian say so inflicted a major defeat on the British, although they did not leave captured SAS behind.

Though that the only really uplifting episode in another wise disgusting side show, as for the Shia and the killing of 50 Women for not wearing the Burkha and being 'westernised', that's as disgusting and lets not forget the evil practised on Women many Schoolgirls in Afghanistan at moment. All in all if only the Americans had left their militarism at end of WW II we might now not consider them as so bad and as evil as the enemy they are fighting. Could not they have put up a reward for the assassination of Saddam, I am sure his own General Staff would have taken the bait to drop him stone cold dead? Then no Invasion and no war and no destruction on the scale witnessed, am I just being to naive in such wishfull thinking?
